Tourists love visiting Mexico, and it’s often a business destination for many entrepreneurs. The reports tell us that the hospitality industry in Mexico is thriving with growing numbers of travelers visiting the country year on year.
However, the same report states that the hospitality industry faces several challenges, including the negative growth in hotel occupancy rates, especially in the Central North region with a 5.8% drop in occupancy rate.

Hotels in Mexico Right Now
Nevertheless, Mexico continues to be a country attractive to companies who want to invest in both the business and leisure travel segments. There are many domestic and international brands present on the market. There are slightly more branded than non-branded hotels in the market, 60% and 40%, respectively.
Only in 2019, 44.7 million tourists from all over the world visited this country. The hospitality industry generated 24.6 billion dollars which placed Mexico 7th on the list of countries most visited by international tourists.
However, they all share the same challenges in overcoming the drop in occupancy rate challenge, generating ancillary revenue, and enhancing customer company interaction experience. Given that here, at UpStay, we are focused on helping hotels generate new revenue streams, we saw this as a fantastic opportunity.
